The fires lasted for three weeks and forced thousands of residents to leave their homes. Thousands of buildings were destroyed, including in the affluent area of Pacific Palisades and also in Malibu and Altadena.
"The death toll in connection with the wildfires is now 30. 18 in the Eaton fire and 12 in Palisades", announces the Los Angeles coroner in a statement.
Both fires started on January 7, but the exact cause of the fire is still being investigated. Now, three months later, the work of clearing debris from destroyed buildings is also continuing.
The cost of the damage after the fires is estimated to amount to hundreds of billions of dollars.
