On Thursday night Swedish time, the International Football Association Board (FIFA), led by Chairman Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström, issued an apology in a press release.
There, the association wrote that "mistakes were made" and that it had not intended member associations to feel excluded from the process when FIFA presented the proposal to sell shares in, among other things, the World Cup.
Now Caf announces that the federation stands behind the statement, and that Infantino continues to have its support.
"CAF welcomes the joint statement. CAF will continue to focus on making African football one of the best in the world," said federation president Patrice Motsepe.
"The CAF Executive Committee also unanimously confirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and thanked him for his support for African football over the years," the federation further wrote in the statement.
