On Wednesday, the top brass of the International Football Association Board (FIFA) gathered for an emergency meeting.
On the night of Thursday Swedish time, FIFA, led by chairman Gianni Infantino and secretary general Mattias Grafström, issued an apology in a press release.
There, FIFA wrote, among other things, that "mistakes were made" when it presented the proposal to sell shares in, among other things, the World Cup to private investors - a proposal that was later scrapped. FIFA also said that the association "will not tolerate any attacks on its integrity" and that Infantino continues to have the trust of FIFA's management team.
“Thanked him for his support”
After a board meeting, CAF now says that the association supports FIFA's statement, and that Infantino continues to have its support.
"CAF welcomes the joint statement. CAF will continue to focus on making African football one of the best in the world," said the federation's president, Patrice Motsepe.
"The CAF Executive Committee also unanimously confirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and thanked him for his support for African football over the years," the federation further writes.
Uefa boycotts
According to the British The Telegraph, leaders from both the European Union (Uefa) and Concacaf (North and Central America and the Caribbean Confederation) are trying to gather enough support to bring down Infantino in a vote of no confidence, or launch a challenger for the presidency.
Earlier on Thursday, the South American Confederation (Conmebol) announced that it does not support a vote of no confidence, but is open to alternative candidates for the presidency at next year's FIFA Congress.
