The accident occurred at 09.30 on Thursday when the car and the bus, which had no passengers, collided on Farstabron. The bus is gas-powered and the vehicles started to burn.

What caused the fire is too early to say, says Anders Bryngelsson, press spokesperson at the Stockholm police.

In the afternoon, the police announced that the car driver and the bus driver, both middle-aged men, had died in the accident.

A preliminary investigation into gross negligence leading to death and gross negligence in traffic has been initiated to investigate the cause of the accident. Both vehicles have been seized for a technical examination.

Road closed

After the accident, police, ambulance, and rescue services were alerted to the scene with several resources.

The road section is closed in both directions and traffic is being diverted. According to the Swedish Transport Administration, the sections are expected to open to traffic again at 19.00.

Region Stockholm went into emergency mode after the accident, reported SVT News Stockholm.

This means that we gather healthcare resources centrally and prepare emergency hospitals, said Josefine Bergenholtz-Gröndahl at Region Stockholm to SVT.

Several helped out

Sebastian witnessed the incident and tells Aftonbladet about the intense fire and that many tried to help put it out.

I do not know if it was an electric car, but it started to flash when they tried to put out the fire, he says.

Värmdö municipality has activated crisis support, and opens Gustavsberg church and a parish home for socializing and support.
