Burkina Faso's military junta has dissolved all political parties in the country, according to a decree approved by the government on Thursday.

The government justifies the decision by saying that the parties have contributed to "divisiveness" between citizens.

Political party activities have been severely restricted under the military junta that rules the country. The new decision means that the parties' assets will be transferred to the state.

The dissolution of the country's political parties follows a series of similar events targeting civil liberties and opposition parties since the military took power in a coup in 2022.
