The 93-meter-long foreign-flagged vessel was on its way from Gdansk in Poland to Setúbal in Portugal, loaded with scrap. One man is detained, suspected of gross negligence in maritime traffic.

We are conducting interrogations on board with the crew and gathering necessary information to clarify what has happened, says Mattias Lindholm, press chief at the Coast Guard, at lunchtime on Sunday.

According to the Coast Guard, the grounding occurred in Swedish waters early on Sunday morning, off Klagshamn south of Malmö.

They have ended up outside the navigable channel. There are many shallows in the Öresund and in- and outlets. Therefore, it is very important to stay within the designated areas that are marked, says Lindholm.

There is also 69,000 liters of diesel oil on board. The Coast Guard sent a plane to the site. There was too much cloud cover to get a clear view, but the radar system could not detect any oil leak.

How and when the vessel will be freed is still unclear, as is whether it will be able to do so under its own power. The shipping company will present a salvage plan that needs to get the green light from the authorities.

Divers will inspect the hull and seafloor where the vessel is stuck, but it will not happen on Sunday due to the weather.

We need to find out how hard she is stuck and if there are any damages that have not been detected yet, says Lindholm.
