The decision was made after a request for legal assistance was received from another country which, according to the application, is conducting a preliminary investigation into a suspected crime, the Swedish Prosecution Authority writes in a press release, without naming the country.
The Coast Guard stated after the boarding that the ship had been sailing under a false flag and that it was listed on Ukraine's sanctions list "where information indicates that it was transporting grain stolen from Ukraine."
The ship's captain was arrested and detained, but was released a week ago.
