Russia's president Vladimir Putin may be allowed to fly over the NATO and EU country Bulgaria to get to a potential summit with the USA's Donald Trump.

If and when the meeting in Budapest, Hungary is to be held is still unclear. But Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev opens up for the possibility that a route over his country can become possible for Putin, reports the news site Euractiv.

When efforts are made to achieve peace and the condition for it is to have a meeting, it is most logical that it can be assisted in all ways, he said in connection with the EU countries' meeting of foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday.

This would make it possible for Putin to fly over Bulgaria and Serbia to get to Hungary. The shortest route from Moscow would otherwise take the Russian president over either the warring Ukraine or the strongly Russia-critical Poland.
