On Friday afternoon, the heavy news arrived that Brynäs' key defender Simon Bertilsson had torn his cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the hockey season.

In the evening, it was time for the first semifinal in the match series between Brynäs and Skellefteå in Gävle.

Then, the home team won 4–1.

It feels positive, I think we're playing a good game, and nice to take the first game here at home, says Brynäs goalkeeper Erik Källgren to TV4.

Brynäs went up 2–0 in the second period, after goals by Charles-Edouard D'Astous and Tyler Vesel.

Early in the third period, Skellefteå reduced the score to 1–2.

When the visiting team went for equalization in the final stages, Brynäs could score both 3–1 and 4–1 into an empty net. The goal scorers were then Oskar Lindblom and Bobby Trivigno.

The second match in the best-of-seven series is played on Sunday, also in Gävle.
