The reigning champions Frölunda didn't have much to fight for, especially in the first period. The away team Brynäs scored their 3–0 goal on the power play; it was Viivi Vainikka's second goal of the match.
After that first-period goal, Brynäs' scoring slowed, and the home team cut the deficit to 4–1 in the third period, which was the final score.
The Gävle club has played in seven finals but never won. The Gothenburg team secured the title last year - which was the club's first on the women's side - by winning three straight matches against Luleå.
Game two will be played on March 24.
