Ölund's Hat-Trick Powers Brynäs to 2-0 Lead in SM Semifinals

Linus Ölund scored a hat-trick and was met with thrown caps from the home crowd in Gävle as newcomers Brynäs won 4–3 and took a 2–0 lead in the SM semi-finals against reigning champions Skellefteå.

Ölund's first goal in the match, to 1–0, came after a remarkable sequence where the puck was in the air a couple of times.

Then, the Brynäs center, who has played forward in the last matches, added two more goals – to 3–0 and 4–2 – and was credited with a hat-trick when Skellefteå was defeated for the second time in three days in the SM semifinals in ice hockey.

The home crowd celebrated by traditionally throwing hats onto the ice.

The 27-year-old assistant team captain, who scored 5 goals in 50 regular season matches but 4 in 8 playoff matches so far, doesn't remember the last time he scored three goals in one match.

It was probably U16, J18 or something like that, he says to TV4 and continues:

I've found some stimulus that works. Since I moved out to the wing in the last matches, I have a bit more energy offensively maybe. Could be that.

Sunday's 4–3 win meant that the Gävle team leads 2–0 in matches in the best-of-seven series when it continues in Västerbotten with matches on Tuesday and Thursday.
