British man with Ebola evacuated from Congo-Kinshasa for treatment

A British man infected with Ebola is being evacuated from Congo-Kinshasa, the British government says.

The man, believed to be a healthcare worker, is the first British patient to be evacuated during the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

He is also the third person to return to Europe with a confirmed Ebola infection. In June, a doctor who fell ill in Congo-Kinshasa returned to France, and last month a Swiss woman was evacuated to Geneva after being suspected of contracting the disease in Uganda.

More than 10,600 people have been confirmed infected in the ongoing outbreak, the majority in Congo-Kinshasa. Almost half of them have died from the hemorrhagic fever.
