Two struggling teams were set to face off at Brentford Community Stadium. Chelsea were coming off two straight winless games, and Brentford had cruised through the last three rounds.
It was also evident in the game, which was tentative during the first 45 minutes.
The match opened up in the second half, and that benefited the home team.
The payoff came when Jaidon Anthony headed in the opening goal from a corner.
Chelsea responded by pushing forward, but that opened up counterattack opportunities.
Igor Thiago extended the lead by scoring on one such break.
Fabio Carvalho then made it 3-0 in the final minutes.
With the victory, Brentford climbed to third place in a very sluggish Premier League table.
