Approximately 3,000 skiers were forced to retire during Vasaloppet on Sunday.
The main break station is usually halfway at Evertsberg, but many people dropped out earlier in the race.
This created problems for the organizers - who drove the skiers back with shuttle buses to Sälen or Mora.
"We usually leave ten buses up in Sälen handling pick-ups in Smågan, Mångsbodarna and Risberg. Now we took seventeen buses to secure it, and it turned out that it wasn't enough," says Höglund.
"Also, the road is one-way from Evertsberg westward, so we had to take buses with police escort in the one-way direction. We usually never have to do that."
A lot of snow fell over Dalarna - which meant that the snow groomer drivers had to get back out on the tracks early in the morning before the race.
"The snowplow drivers were finished at three in the morning. At five in the morning I called and woke everyone up and asked them to redo the job," says Höglund.
