The Swedish table tennis star Truls Möregårdh was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the world number one Lin Shidong earlier in the week in the World Cup, but the Chinese player did not win the tournament at home in Macao.
In the final, the Brazilian Hugo Calderano caused an upset against Lin and took home the victory via 4–1 after winning four straight sets against the Chinese player.
On his way to the final victory, the world number five Calderano also eliminated the world number two Wang Chuqin, China, in the semifinal and in the quarterfinals, he won against the world number three Tomokazu Harimoto, Japan.
