According to police, a 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen outside a store at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday. The man was taken to hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.
Police have not named the victim, but several media outlets are reporting that it is NY Jets cornerback Kris Boyd.
"We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will not comment further at this time," a club spokesman said in a statement, according to the AP news agency.
Boyd signed with the Jets before the season but has not played due to an injury.
