The accident was reported at 4:45 p.m. According to police, the boy was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The police have filed a report of manslaughter to investigate how the accident occurred.
Sandviken Municipality has activated its Posom group, which provides support in the event of serious incidents. One of the municipality's schools will be open on Saturday to offer counselling support.
"Our thoughts go out to the boy's family, friends and everyone who has been affected. In difficult times like this, it is important to talk and share what you feel," says Rolf Sundqvist, head of security at Sandviken Municipality, in a statement.
