The decision was announced by Boy George's agent Paul Kemsley, who wrote that the departure is in the "artist's best interest".
The announcement comes shortly after Boy George released a song praising Israel's military response to the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023. "You say genocide, I say war," he sings in the song, among other things.
The song has been condemned on social media, with calls for protests outside the Palladium concert venue in London where the musical is set to be performed.
In a post on social media, Boy George himself writes after the departure: "To quote Groucho Marx: I would never want to be in a club that wants me as a member!"
