Norwegian biathlete Johan-Olav Botn describes what it was like to find his national teammate Sivert Guttorm Bakken dead. "It was a complete state of shock and panic," he told Norwegian broadcaster TV 2.

Johan-Olav Botn was supposed to pick up Sivert Guttorm Bakken on the morning of December 23 for a ski training session. Botn later found Bakken lifeless in his hotel room in Lavazè, Italy.

"I tried to get help, but couldn't get through when I called the police and ambulance. Then I ran and got help," Botn said.

Botn understood that Bakken was dead.

I saw that he was completely lifeless and pale in the face. I understood that he was dead.

I was completely devastated. I felt completely helpless.

The biathlete said he received psychological help after the incident.

There are images in my head that I realize I will have to live with for the rest of my life. I think it is wise to find a way to live with the images.

It is still unclear what caused Bakken's death. He was wearing a high-altitude mask when he was found.
