The number of collection claims continues to decrease in Sweden, according to April's figures from the industry organization Svensk inkasso. At the same time as the number of new collection claims decreases by 12 percent to April last year, the proportion of unresolved collection cases continues to increase.
"The decrease in collection claims is likely a sign of lower economic activity, while the increase in unresolved cases shows that many households still have it economically tough", says Fredrik Engström, lawyer and chairman of Svensk inkasso, in a press release.
Borås, every 16th resident received a collection claim in April. According to Svensk inkasso, it is important to monitor how indebtedness differs in different parts of the country.
"It makes it possible to follow how households' payment ability develops over time, even locally in individual cities and municipalities, and helps us to identify where efforts may need to be made specifically", says Fredrik Engström.
This is the first time Svensk inkasso presents monthly statistics for the largest cities.
