A French human rights group is suing the booking websites Airbnb and Booking.com for promoting "occupation tourism" when they provide accommodations in Israeli settlements in Palestinian areas.

The complaint has been filed by the organization Ligue des droits de l'homme (LDH) in Paris.

These multinational companies enable and facilitate, both directly and indirectly, the creation and expansion of Israeli settlements by offering their services and products, says the group's lawyer Patrick Baudouin.

The settlements on the West Bank are illegal under international law. According to LDH, the sites' actions contribute to "Israel's coordinated plan for colonization and destruction of the Palestinian population).

Airbnb does not indicate that the properties offered for rent are located on Palestinian territory. Instead, only the settlement is indicated, without it being clear that it is one such.

Booking.com indicates that the accommodation is located in Israeli settlements and "in Palestine".
