The series was created by Felix, Clara and Moa Herngren based on their experiences of living in a bonus family. The focus is on the couple Lisa and Patrik, played by Vera Vitali and Erik Johansson, their children and their exes.
The first four seasons of "Bonusfamiljen" aired between 2017 and 2021 and were followed in 2022 by the feature film "Long Live the Bonusfamiljen".
The fifth season is scheduled to air in 2027.
