Two Swedish Jas Gripen and a massive American B-52 Stratofortress displayed themselves in a formation flight at low altitude over central Stockholm on Tuesday. The route, over the capital, was chosen to mark the anniversary of Sweden's accession to NATO.
The two Swedish fighter jets from Skaraborg's air wing met up with the bomber outside Gothenburg and escorted it north to Stockholm and further to Arlanda and Uppsala.
"Sweden is the newcomer to NATO, but the air force has a long-standing cooperation with the American air force. They are a very important cooperation partner and such assignments are excellent opportunities to exercise together and strengthen the alliance," says Lieutenant Colonel Mikael Månsson at the Air Staff in a press release.
