The explosion is described as "an attack" in a statement from the regional government of La Libertad in northern Peru.
The explosion occurred early this morning in the Dali discotheque near the coastal city of Trujillo, about 500 kilometers north of the capital, Lima.
The region is severely affected by growing problems with organized crime, contract killings and feuds over, among other things, oil resources in the Andes.
