A bomb alert has been issued ahead of Israel's opening Olympic match in football against Mali.

The French police have cordoned off a large area south of the Parc des Princes football stadium in Paris, where the match is to be played.

German Bild reports from the scene that a suspicious bag has been found between Parc des Princes and the Roland Garros tennis arena.

A large area around the surrounding streets was therefore cordoned off for everyone. Traffic was stopped, including the Olympic bus traffic. Residents in the area cannot even enter their homes.

"Nothing is working anymore, everything is blocked", Bild reports.

The match between Israel and Mali, which opens the Olympics in Paris, is considered by the police to be one of the high-risk matches in the Olympic football tournament, which has contributed to 1,000 police officers monitoring the match.
