Bolsonaro was recently convicted for his coup attempt after the 2022 election.
Since his political allies failed to secure an amnesty, steps have been taken to instead "reduce the sentence," MP Sostenes Cavalcante admitted at a press conference.
If the lower house votes yes, the Senate will later vote on the bill. If approved, Bolsonaro's sentence is expected to be reduced to two years and four months. In addition, around 100 of Bolsonaro's convicted supporters will be released on parole.
Lindbergh Farias, from President Lula da Silva's Workers' Party, calls the bill "unacceptable."
