It was in connection with the 30-kilometer race Südtirol Moonlight Classic that the three-time Olympic gold medalist from Beijing 2022 said that the newly elected President of the USA had been involved in his comeback.

According to NRK, Bolsjunov, who competes under a neutral flag, did not want to answer the question of whether he is friends with Donald Trump.

Over the weekend, Trump told the New York Post in an interview that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone about the Ukraine war.

All athletes of our caliber are at the World Cup (in Falun) now, so we're racing here, says Bolsjunov, who was asked how he motivated himself to stay in shape.

It's tough, but the most important thing is that we get to participate in this race.

Russian cross-country skiers have not been allowed to compete internationally since the invasion of Ukraine almost three years ago. The race in Seiser Alm is not organized by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (Fis) or Ski Classics, which has opened up for Russian skiers to participate.
