The American aircraft giant is to pay 1.1 billion dollars – equivalent to 10.5 billion kronor – to avoid the two plane crashes in 2018 and 2019 being handled by an American court. The allegations concern, among other things, suspicions that Boeing did not follow the quality requirements set by federal aviation authorities.
Friday's message from the Justice Department must be approved by a judge. A federal trial was planned to begin in June in Fort Worth, Texas.
346 people died in the two accidents and the model was globally banned from flying after the accidents.
Relatives criticize the settlement with Boeing.
"The implication of this is that companies in the USA do not need to worry about making their products safe for consumers", said Javier De Luis in a statement from the lawyers representing those who are suing Boeing.
However, other groups of relatives are said to be backing a settlement out of court.
