Israel has retrieved the body of a Thai citizen who was taken as a hostage during the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the attack that became the starting shot of the war in Gaza.
Israeli authorities say that the man, Nattapong Pinta, died in captivity "at the beginning of the war".
Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says in a comment that they are "deeply saddened" by the news that the last Thai hostage has been confirmed dead. Previously, Hamas had released about 30 Thai citizens who were kidnapped during the attack in southern Israel, where many of them worked as agricultural workers.
More than 40 Thais were killed on October 7.
A total of 250 people were taken as hostages in the Hamas attack. 55 of them are still in Gaza, but according to Israel, more than half are likely already dead.
