Postnord stops its air transports as of September. This creates problems for pig breeding, according to P4 Sörmland. The stop affects the transports of pig semen to pig farmers throughout the country. If it affects the pig farmers, it will ultimately also affect the consumers, says Mikaela Lekenvall, semen chief at Svenska Köttföretagen, Sweden's largest supplier of pig semen, to the radio.

Particularly affected are Gotland and northern Sweden, where pig semen was previously flown in, since pig semen is a perishable item with a short shelf life and is sensitive to cold and heat.

Now, Svenska Köttföretagen is looking into how to solve the situation.

We are working on finding different solutions, but so far, the alternatives we have found are more expensive.
