A similar find was made in Linköping as recently as last week, but that snake was not in a box and has not been cared for since. Also last summer, loose snakes were found in southern Sweden that do not belong in the Swedish fauna.
Releasing foreign snakes into the wild can be considered a violation of the Animal Welfare Act or animal cruelty, according to the police.
