At least 23 Taliban militants were reportedly killed when Pakistani security forces carried out two targeted operations near the border with Afghanistan.

The raids, which were surrounded by intense gunfire, took place in the Kurram district of the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to information from the military.

The dead are described as members of the Pakistani Taliban movement TTP. A section of the TTP has claimed responsibility for last week's suicide attack in the capital Islamabad that claimed twelve lives.

Pakistan's military repeatedly accuses Taliban-ruled Afghanistan of supporting the TTP.
