Healthcare has agreed on a new so-called care pathway for high blood pressure. High blood pressure is the most important risk factor for premature death globally and increases the risk of stroke, heart failure and heart attack.
Now healthcare will be better at identifying people at risk, reports Dagens Medicin, among others. Today the threshold is 140/90 mmHg, and it should remain that way. But for those receiving treatment, the target for most people should be 130/80. Healthy lifestyle habits and medication form the basis of treatment.
In Sweden, approximately half of the population is diagnosed with hypertension before the age of 65.
