Blekinge police officer charged over 46 illegal searches of police records

A police officer is charged with data breaches after conducting 46 searches of police records, local media in Blekinge report.

The police officer is based in the county and has been searching for people he has had relationships with for several years, unrelated to his work. Among other things, he searched for a police case involving a relative.

He accessed sensitive information through the illegal searches and is charged with data breaches. The officer admits to the crime and risks both imprisonment and dismissal.

“The searches have also, due to XX (the police officer’s) relationship with the individuals who were searched, constituted an unlawful measure taken in the police’s crime-fighting activities as a result of a conflict of interest […]”, the prosecutor writes in the indictment, reports Blekinge Läns Tidning.
