"I have arrested the captain partly on the grounds of flight risk because he is a resident of a country outside the Nordic countries and the EU, and partly on the grounds of undue influence on the criminal investigation, for example on witnesses," prosecutor James von Reis says in a press release from the Swedish Prosecution Authority.
The captain, who was arrested on Thursday evening, is also suspected of negligence in maritime traffic.
On Friday evening, the ship was allowed to leave Hakefjorden after being seized by the police, writes GP. The seizure had then been lifted.
Didn't notice anything
The collision occurred late Tuesday night. Four people, a man and a woman and two young children, were on board the recreational boat. The woman and a child have been found deceased. The man and a child were found shortly after the alarm was raised and taken to hospital.
The condition of both injured is assessed as stable, Sahlgrenska University Hospital's press service reported on Friday. The child was previously treated for serious injuries.
The ship's Swedish pilot has stated that he did not notice anything in connection with the accident.
He is thoughtful. He has gone over the incident in his head a hundred times. He is taken by the situation and that nothing has been noticed, said Ulf Eriksson, acting pilot area manager for Marstrand and Lysekil, to Göteborgs-Posten earlier this week.
The shipping company's CEO Roald Misje confirms to the Norwegian Dagbladet that the crew aboard the Misje Verde is Russian and consists of seven people. The arrested captain is also from Russia.
Black box
The Swedish Accident Investigation Board has initiated an investigation in which the cargo ship's so-called black box may play an important role.
"We have downloaded it with the assistance of the police, but we have not had time to look at it. We will do so only next week," says Björn Ramstedt, who is investigating the accident for the Swedish Accident Investigation Board, to Aftonbladet.
There may be audio recordings of what is said on the bridge while driving the ship.
According to Ramstedt, the investigation also needs to review the ship's navigation bridge, radar settings and electronic charts, as well as examine the motorboat.
