The tennis tournament in Barcelona is Spain's oldest. Björn Borg has won it twice, in 1975 and 1977.

Now, 50 years since the first title for the Swedish tennis legend, plans were made to pay tribute to him this afternoon – when home favorite Carlos Alcaraz enters the tournament.

However, the tributes to the 68-year-old have now been cancelled.

"He has brought forward his departure from Barcelona", the organizer writes according to the Spanish newspaper.

"His time at RCT Barcelona-1899 has been very emotional, with reunions with some of the stars of Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – 72nd Conde de Godó Trophy, with the club and in his contacts with the media", they continue.

The reason for Björn Borg's premature departure is unknown.
