Malin Björk (L) left the EU Parliament last summer, but is now instead getting a role as one of two party chairmen for the new umbrella organization ELA, the European Left Alliance.
According to the news site Politico Europe, Björk will lead the organization together with Portuguese EU Parliament member Catarina Martins.
Besides the Swedish L, the Finnish Left Alliance, the Danish Unity List, and the French LFI, among others, are also part of ELA. Several of the parties – but not L – were previously part of the umbrella organization PEL, the European Left Party.
In the EU Parliament, the parties from ELA and PEL sit together in a joint left-wing group with a total of 46 members – including L members Jonas Sjöstedt and Hanna Gedin.
