Bitcoin rises above $80,000 for first time since mid-May

In early European trading, the price has eased slightly to $80,500.

Interest in bitcoin in the market got new fuel last week, with a rise of over 20 percent after US long-term interest rates started to rise and the debt-laden Trump administration chose to try to ease interest-rate pressure with additional bond buybacks.

However, it is still a long way from reaching the historical record of around $126,000 per bitcoin from October last year.
