Bird flu has been confirmed at a poultry farm in Ängelholm municipality, reports P4 Kristianstad.

The suspicion of bird flu arose after most of the turkeys on the farm died on Tuesday. 9,500 turkeys are affected, as well as several thousand chickens and ducks, according to SVT Nyheter .

During the day, all animals on the farm are euthanized, says Ella Sigvardsson, infectious disease control officer at the Swedish Board of Agriculture, to the channel.

The State Veterinary Institute has warned of a worse bird flu season than in years. In October, 28,000 turkeys had to be culled in Tomelilla after an outbreak.

Large parts of southern Sweden have been classified as a high-risk area by the Swedish Board of Agriculture. There are special rules in place to reduce the risk of domestic birds becoming infected by wild ones.
