Binance to cover losses after $6.2 billion crypto theft, resume withdrawals Sunday

Hackers stole nearly $6.2 billion worth of assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance earlier this week. The company has now announced that it will cover the financial losses.

“Binance will fully cover the financial consequences of the funds stolen in this incident,” the cryptocurrency exchange said in a statement.

The company has promised to cover the stolen funds by repurchasing the corresponding assets, using equity and insurance to finance the purchase.

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, also said it is working to resume customer withdrawals on Sunday.

The cyberattack is the largest theft in cryptocurrency history, Bloomberg reports, citing experts.
