A man died of hydrogen sulfide poisoning in connection with work at the Frövi bruk facility in Lindesbergs municipality in April 2023. Now the company Billerud Skog & Industri Aktiebolag is being sentenced and will have to pay a corporate fine of 17.4 million kronor, announces Örebro district court.

The company has previously stated that it accepts the prosecutor's charges of work environment crime through gross negligence leading to another person's death, as well as the size of the fine.

"Two years is a long time, and it has been tough for all those involved. On a day like this, I think extra much about our colleague's family and our other employees", said CEO Ivar Vatne in a press release in connection with the prosecutor submitting his charges to the district court in April.

According to prosecutor Carl-Gunnar Fridolfsson, it was the person or persons who were responsible for safety in the company who caused the man's death through negligence, as there were deficiencies in monitoring issued instructions, as well as in providing the employees with the training needed to prevent the death.
