Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the world's fifth richest man, will via his foundation double his payments of donations with the aim of closing the Gates Foundation in 20 years.
"I have decided to give back my money to society much faster than I had planned from the beginning", he writes in a statement.
The purpose of the donations – which are estimated to amount to 200 billion dollars (approximately 1,920 billion kronor) – is, according to Bill Gates, to save lives around the world.
