What happened was, however ... which month did he die, Beau? Oh God, May 30, he says in a recording, which Axios has published.

In the recordings, long uncomfortable silences can be heard when Biden struggles to come up with the right words and remember when his son died, which year Donald Trump was elected and why he had secret documents that he shouldn't have had.

Biden's lawyers are forced to remind Biden of the year his son Beau died (2015) and when Donald Trump was first elected as president (2016).

This is the first time audio clips are released from the interviews that special counsel Robert Hur conducted with Joe Biden in the investigation into how the president handled secret documents.

When Hur published his report in February 2024, he described Biden as "an aging man with a bad memory" and stated that the president did not remember when his son died. The report was not well received in the White House and the painted picture was strongly denied by Biden.

Biden's team has previously released transcripts of the interviews, but no audio files.
