USA's president Joe Biden calls his rival Donald Trump a criminal after last week's conviction of the former president.
Biden further stated that Trump's attacks on the judicial system, with allegations that the trial was rigged, are "even more dangerous".
If Trump is imprisoned, it could mean a "turning point" for his supporters, Trump said in an interview broadcast by Fox News on Sunday.
Biden criticized the statement on Monday:
A unanimous jury found Trump guilty of accounting fraud on all 34 counts in New York last Tuesday. The sentence will be announced on July 11.
Trump was accused of ordering payments to individuals, including former adult film actress Stormy Daniels, to keep sensitive information about him from being revealed during the 2016 presidential campaign. The payments were recorded as legal expenses, a crime in the state of New York.
Trump has denied the crime and promised to appeal the verdict.
