The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced earlier this week that Russian athletes, regardless of their political stance, will be allowed to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
In a statement to Reuters, the IBU said that it had "noted" the IOC's decision, but that biathlon will not follow the same path.
Russian and Belarusian citizens have been banned from the sport since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Last season, Russian and Belarusian participation under neutral flags - if the athletes had not supported the war in any way - was allowed in several winter sports, but biathlon has consistently maintained that it would not allow their participation at all.
