The 27-year-old is at the national team camp in Font Romeu, France, and can train fully.

Even riding in a group on a bike.

"It's the first test of cycling in a group during this camp, and it's gone well so far," Brandt said during a digital press conference.

Landed on his head

Viktor Brandt crashed in May during training, along with dozens of others.

Some of them got tangled up in the middle of the group, and there were probably four or five of us lying in the ditch. I managed to do a somersault into the ditch and land on the back of my skull.

He jokingly says:

The most important thing was that the bike held up. The skull, it could heal.

“No setbacks”

He says it was tough not being able to train as he had planned and with the uncertainty about when he would be back. But now he is optimistic despite the nearly two-month break from normal training.

At the end of July I started to get going really well and have had no setbacks other than soreness that shouldn't negatively affect training," he says about the headache that still bothers him.

Brandt was on the men's relay team that won Olympic bronze in February. He says that despite the long break in training, he feels at the same level as he did this time last year.

I'm betting it will be a regular season.
