At the same time as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos on Saturday ended several days of wedding celebrations in Venice with an extravagant ball, over 500 demonstrators marched through the city in protest under the slogan "no place for Bezos".
We are here to demonstrate against what Bezos represents, the Amazon model, which is based on exploiting people and land, says the 24-year-old activist Alice Bazzoli to AFP.
The American billionaire's extravagant celebration is striking in the eyes of many Venetians who are tired of the extensive tourism's negative effects, high housing costs and the increased risk of flooding in the wake of climate change.
Among Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez's guests in Venice are the actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Orlando Bloom, Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner as well as Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
