Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' space company Blue Origin is laying off every tenth employee. The news comes a month after the company's new rocket New Glenn was launched on its first test flight and reached its planned orbit around the Earth.

In a message to the staff, which the news agency AP has read, CEO Dave Limp writes that the decision was difficult but that the company has grown too fast in recent years.

Blue Origin is one of the actors that have a contract with the space agency NASA to place astronauts on the moon in the coming years.

According to Dave Limp, the staff reductions are needed to increase the pace of both production and the number of rocket launches.

It is unclear how many are affected by the layoffs since Blue Origin does not disclose the number of employees.
