The actress Shannen Doherty has passed away at the age of 53. She is primarily known for her role as Brenda in the TV series "Beverly Hills".
"The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by those she loved and her dog Bowie. The family asks everyone to show consideration during this time so that they can mourn in peace", writes Doherty's publicist Leslie Sloane in a statement to People Magazine.
Shannen Doherty died on Saturday after several years of battling cancer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
"I've definitely had days when I've said 'Why me?' and then 'Why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this? None of us do'", Doherty previously said to People.
Doherty was born in Memphis in the American state of Tennessee, where she lived her first seven years before her family moved to Los Angeles. She made her acting debut as a ten-year-old in the series "Father Murphy".
After her big breakthrough in "Beverly Hills" at the age of 19, she has, among other things, been involved in the series "Charmed" and the horror film "Almost Dead". In the sequel to "Beverly Hills" (2019), she played the now adult character that made her famous.
