Bertrand Blier made his most famous films in the 1970s and 80s, stories that were often characterized by satire and dark humor.
Often, Blier cast a then young Gérard Depardieu in the leading roles, as in "Flirtations" (1974), "Thieves and Lovers" (1986) and "Too Beautiful for You" (1989).
For "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs" (1978), Blier received an Oscar for Best Non-English Language Film. Depardieu also played the leading role in that film.
Blier passed away on Monday, according to his family for the news agency AFP.
