"Our application is a genuine promise to future generations. We want to see a positive development for the city of Berlin," Mayor Kai Wegner said in a statement.
Apart from Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia have also shown interest in hosting the Olympics.
The German Olympic Committee will choose between these sites on September 26 this year. It will then submit an application to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which will make the decision. Germany has announced that it wants to host the 2036, 2040 or 2044 Olympics.
